Education Committee

Supporting the education and enrichment of our youth

We thank our participating members for all the support they have provided to date. We have received positive feedback from the school administration, faculty, and students. Our volunteers have also voiced enjoyment and personal satisfaction for the service they provide.

Any member interested in using their career experience and knowledge to support additional presentations to the students or is willing to participate with a club is welcome to meet with the Education Committee or communicate your interest by emailing us at This email address is being protected from spambots. Mosby Ave., (Hwy 903) - Littleton, NC 27850 and you are welcome to come and participate. In the future, when we identify enough volunteers, we plan to expand the volunteer program to support schools in other counties in the Lake Gaston area. We look forward to hearing from you. Summer is here and we have completed our in-school presentations on careers and life skills to the 8th grade students at James S. Russell Middle School and William R. Davie Middle School for the 2018-2019 academic school year. We had a late start and did not provide as many presentations as expected but hope to do better for the next school year.

A Lakeside Learning Day (LLD) was held on April 10 for Gaston Middle School at Wildwood Point HOA recreation area. We had scheduled two other LLDs with local middle schools but due to circumstances beyond our control these two LLDs were canceled. We thank all who support the LLDs; our LGA volunteers and the other organizations inclusive but not limited to NC Wildlife, VADGIF, NCSU, Lake Gaston Water Safety Council, AFWAKE, US Coastguard Auxiliary Flotilla 93 and other community organizations and individuals.

David Murphy continues to represent the LGA on the STEM based Community Engagement Leadership Team for Halifax County Public School System (Team). David had success in engaging with the school to use Raspberry Pi LINUX based computer build and design as a basic learning tool for the students.

We welcome any member to share their thoughts and contribute their time and energy on a part-time basis to support the Educational Committee. Being active with local students is a great way to provide an important service to our community.
