LGA Board of Directors Meeting Minutes - APPROVED
May 5, 2021
Note: Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Board continues to meet via Zoom. This was our fifth meeting where we invited the membership.
Meeting called to order at 9:35 AM by President Don Carson. Those participating in the meeting were Directors Carol Warfel, Al Potter, Jeff Zimmer, John Cataldo, David Murphy, Judy Waters and Brian Goldsworthy. Also attending were Executive Director Moira Underwood and Luly Carson. We had a total of 20 attendees including one member of the press.
Today’s Agenda was approved (BH/JZ) and passed unanimously.
The April 7, 2021 meeting minutes approved (BH/JZ), passed unanimously and will be posted on the web site.
Luly Carson advised the LGA Finances are in excellent shape and we expect to have a Treasurer in place at the Saturday, June 12 Annual Meeting.
Don announced the Jack D Saunders Community Shred Event will take place on May 8, 2021. Please see the web site for more details.
Also, the Annual Lake Clean Up Day is scheduled for June 5, 2021. We ask all residents to dedicate this day to cleaning up their shoreline.
Brian introduced Fire Chief Lorenzo Wilkins, Roanoke Wildwood Volunteer Fire Department and LGA member Sherry Herzing as our guest speakers. Chief Wilkins began his remarks with an explanation of fire rates. The Chief went over the details when the RWVFD jurisdiction increased from Song Bird Creek to the state line. Planning is underway for a future station which, when built, would ensure the entire RWVFD coverage area will receive the very favorable 5 rating.
Chief Wilkins transitioned to the new Community Leader meetings he is hosting. The monthly meetings have prioritized a CERT program for Northampton County. He indicated Warren County will be next. Check the Public Safety Committee report in the June/July Bulletin for more information about CERT.
Sherry Herzing with the 911 Community Task Force provided an update on their current activities. What started out as highlighting the problem with connectivity using cell phones to request first responders has expanded to working with the fire chiefs around the lake, such as Chief Wilkins, to share best practices and identify common problems. Another project is putting signs on all the bridges with county name so a caller can quickly give an accurate location to the tele-communicators. Sherry asked us to help her group find a North Carolina resident who can work with NC based political leaders. The Task Force is offering a free 2 hour CPR and First Aid class. The participant will not be certified but will know the basics. The fact that a private citizen could orchestrate all of this good is a testament to her passion about life.
Don then asked if the Committee Chairs present had an update on their activities.
Jeff Zimmer, Lake Environment Chair, said volunteers are needed to assist with cage repair on June 14-17. E-coli kits will be available at the June 12 Annual Meeting.
With no further questions or comments, motion by JZ/DM to adjourn and passed.
Meeting adjourned at 10:50 AM.
Brian Goldsworthy, VP and Acting Secretary
